I am a freelance artist living and working in York, UK. I specialise in textiles, particularly freehand machine embroidery, but still draw and paint as well as making historical costumes.
Currently have some pieces at Art in the Mill, Knaresborough, and thank you to all those who supported me during the York Open Studios and at the Saltaire Arts Trail.
At present the themes are to do with landscape, moving through it, distances and spaces, and of course the trees. The work disciplines tend to cross pollinate quite freely – I am beginning to draw more as I would on the sewing machine and am painting and drawing on the textile pieces. In both disciplines the use of line and areas of layered transparent tone or colour create the images in a combination of wet and dry media and techniques. This may be very unpredictable way of working but it is fun. I like the idea of orchestrating and directing rather than being in absolute control. It is a very responsive process and certainly no two pieces will ever be the same. Every time I plug in and switch on it is an adventure.
As a qualified and experienced art tutor I host workshops on art and freehand machine work.
