My “Studio” opening.

It is well past the due date to post again. Could we pretend that this still early June?

York Open Studios is this weekend and next. I remember feeling smug as the usual dates passed and there was no panic, no mad rush. But now it is here and with the best will in the world it is still a last minute dash. If you can come along, please do. It is a fabulous event – 140 artists and makers opening their doors over 2 weekends – no sniffy gallery staff, just the artists in their own spaces, ready for a chat and to let you wander through their creative den. Plus the opportunity to buy all sorts of stuff, big and small, from the person who made it!

Avoid the high street, tick, buy local, tick, support your community, tick, get to be seriously nosey, tick, perhaps find an utterly unique gift for yourself, tick.

I am enjoying the sense of urgency, the need for energy and positivity, but I do wish it wasn’t so exhausting (definitely less fit and more creaky around the joints thanks to lockdown biscuits and inactivity) and so NOW, DO IT NOW! Not at all helped by the excellent tennis at Wimbledon, so distracting, and I believe there is some kind of football event going on…..

At least the frames arrived and the work is mounted and on the wall. One series of digi printed and hand sewns are in a gallery in York, to be collected and put up on Friday evening! Nothing last minute about me! There is a space left but the whole wall may be left unresolved until then. Eeek.

And thinking of eek – the tatty mice are making their first public bow. And they may steal the show…. 27 of the little darlings….

Well the room is nearly ready – all the clutter is surface rubble and detritus. There are 3 pairs of scissors and 3 pairs of glasses in there somewhere. Todays torture list involves another gallery run, cutting the hedge and sorting out the entrance hall, pricing, wrestling with a rosebush that has world domination issues, cutting trees, and making some hand painted scarves look pretty. Signage. Paint the wall.

Best get on.
